The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
