The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 In gardens and springs. 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
