The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and spreading shade 30 near to flowing water 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for the people of the right hand 38
