The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
