The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and shade extended, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins. 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
