AND [thus it is:] We have not created heaven and earth and all that is between them without meaning and purpose, as is the surmise of those who are bent on denying the truth: but then, woe from the fire [of hell] unto all who are bent on denying the truth! 27 Should We equate those who do the right with those who spread corruption in the land? Should We make those who are morally integrated equal to those who seek disintegration? 28 (Here is) a Book which We have sent down unto thee, full of blessings, that they may mediate on its Signs, and that men of understanding may receive admonition. 29 And to Dawud (David) We gave Sulaiman (Solomon). How excellent (a) slave! Verily, he was ever oft-returning in repentance (to Us)! 30 [Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses. 31 he said: 'Indeed I have loved the love of good things better than the remembrance of my Lord until the sun has vanished behind a veil. 32 Bring them back to me' And he hacked their legs and necks (slaughtering them for Allah). 33 But [ere this,] indeed, We had tried Solomon by placing upon his throne a [lifeless] body; and thereupon he turned [towards Us; and] 34 Saying: "O Lord, forgive me, and give me such a dominion as none will merit after me. You are the great bestower." 35 We subjected the wind to him, so that it blew gently at his bidding, wherever he directed it, 36 And We subjected to him the evil ones: every builder and diver. 37 And others bound together in shackles. 38 This is Our gift, so bestow thou or withhold, without rendering an account. 39 And verily for him is an approach with Us, and a happy end. 40
