The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
