The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and extended shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
