He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and herbage 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
