The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
