The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. 5 From a fountain whence the bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to gush abundantly. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 So Allah shall guard them against the woe of that Day, and will procure them freshness and joy, 11 And shall recompense them for that which they patiently bare with a Garden and silken garment. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 The shades of Paradise will bend over them, and its fruits will be brought within their easy reach; 14 and passed around them shall be silver vessels, and crystal goblets, 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be served by immortal youths who look like scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 they will wear green garments of fine silk and rich brocade. They will be adorned with silver bracelets. And their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
