The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and believes in the finest, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
