And Yunus was most surely of the apostles. 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 Then he joined the lots, and was of the condemned. 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us), 143 He would have tarried in the belly thereof till the Day when they are raised. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore in a state of sickness, 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (folk) or more 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 Now ask them (O Muhammad): Hath thy Lord daughters whereas they have sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 Does He prefer sons to daughters? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Will ye not then be admonished? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]. 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted. 160 So you and your deities 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 None of us is there, but has a known station; 164 and, verily, we too are ranged [before Him in worship]; 165 And we are they who exalt (Allah)' 166 And indeed they used to say: 167 If we had the account of earlier people with us, 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know. 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 That they would be helped, 172 and that Our hosts shall triumph. 173 So you ignore them for a time 174 And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! 177 So turn away from them for a while. 178 and see [them for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 179 Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. 180 And Peace on the messengers! 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
