Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HaMeem 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 therein every wise bidding 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
