The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The Companions of the Right 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
