And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
