The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
