The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
