The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
