The dwellers in the wood (of Midian) denied the messengers (of Allah), 176 Shu'ayb asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 177 I am for you an honest Messenger. 178 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 179 I do not ask any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 180 ۞ "Give just measure, and cause no loss (to others by fraud). 181 and weigh with the straight balance, 182 "And withhold not things justly due to men, nor do evil in the land, working mischief. 183 And fear He who created you and the former creation." 184 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 185 And you are naught but a mortal like ourselves, and we know you to be certainly of the liars. 186 “Therefore cause a part of the sky to fall upon us, if you are of the truthful.” 187 He. said: My Lord is the Best Knower of that which ye work. 188 In response they denied him – therefore the punishment of the day of the tent* seized them; that was indeed a punishment of a Great Day. (The clouds formed a tent and rained fire upon them). 189 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 190 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 191
