The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full, 2 And when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do those not think that they shall be raised up 4 on a great day 5 The day when (all) mankind stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 Indeed! The record of the wicked is in the Sijjin -- 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 A record of misdeeds written. 9 Woe, on that day, to those who have rejected God's revelations 10 Those that deny the Day of Judgment. 11 And none can deny it except every transgressor beyond bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and disobedience of Allah, the sinner!) 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 They will then be told: "This is what you had denied." 17 Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. 18 and what shall teach thee what is Illiyun? 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 witnessed by those brought nigh. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 On thrones, they shall gaze; 23 You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss. 24 They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, 25 its seal is musk, for this let the competitors compete; 26 It (that wine) will be mixed with Tasnim. 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 And winked at one another as they passed by them; 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 But they (disbelievers, sinners) had not been sent as watchers over them (the believers). 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 upon couches gazing. 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
