Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
