The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and throws out of itself all that it contains 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 Whoever is given the Record in his right hand 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 And return to his people in happiness. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 he shall call for destruction 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 Verily he was among his people joyous. 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 by the moon, in its fullness 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 No, the unbelievers only belie, 22 And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
