The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
