The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
ALIF LAM MIM. 1 This is The Book free of doubt and involution, a guidance for those who preserve themselves from evil and follow the straight path, 2 Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them, 3 who believe in the Book We have sent down to you (i.e. the Qur'an) and in the Books sent down before you, and firmly believe in the Hereafter. 4 It is they who follow the guidance [which comes from their Sustainer]; and it is they, they who shall attain to a happy state! 5 Surely those who disbelieve, it being alike to them whether you warn them, or do not warn them, will not believe. 6 God has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing, and on their eyes is a covering, and there awaits them a mighty chastisement. 7
