Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
