The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 when the stars are thrown down, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 And when the pregnant she-camels shall be neglected; 4 when the savage beasts are gathered 5 And when the seas shall be filled, 6 when the souls shall be rejoined (with their bodies), 7 And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked 8 for what crime she had been slain, 9 And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; 10 when heaven shall be stripped off; 11 And when the hell is kindled up, 12 And when the garden is brought nigh, 13 (Then) every person will know what he has brought (of good and evil). 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 and the night that falls, 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 Verily, this is the Word (this Quran brought by) a most honourable messenger [Jibrael (Gabriel), from Allah to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)]. 19 of power, given a rank by the Owner of the Throne 20 Obeyed one; then trustworthy. 21 Nor is your companion distracted. 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 This is not the utterance of an accursed devil. 25 When whither go ye? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 for whosoever of you who would go straight; 28 But ye shall not will except as Allah wills,- the Cherisher of the Worlds. 29
