Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a high Garden. 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
