Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter among My servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
