We created mankind from clay, molded from mud, 26 and the jinn created We before of fire flaming. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 When it is properly shaped and I have blown My Spirit into it, you should then bow down in prostration". 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 save Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He said: "It does not behove of me to prostrate myself before a human being whom You have created out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud." 33 He said: Then go thou forth from hence, for lo! thou art outcast. 34 Condemned till the day of Doom!" 35 Said [Iblis]: "Then, O my Sustainer, grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead!" 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 “Till the Day of a well-known time.” 38 "O my Lord," he said, "since You have led me into error I'll beguile them with the pleasures of the world and lead them astray, 39 Save such of them as are Thy perfectly devoted slaves. 40 Said He: "This is, with Me, a straight way: 41 Verily as for My bondmen, no authority shalt thou have over them, except the erring one who follow thee. 42 Gehenna (Hell) will be the promise for all of them. 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44
