In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
