And indeed We created you, then designed you and then ordered the angels, “Prostrate before Adam”; so they all prostrated, except Iblis (Satan); he did not become of those who prostrate. 11 Allah said: what prevented thee, that thou shouldst not prostrate thyself, when I bade thee? He said: I am better than he; me Thou createdest from fire, and him Thou createdest from clay. 12 Said Allah, “Therefore go down from here – it does not befit you to stay here and be proud – exit, you are of the degraded.” 13 (Iblis) said: "Allow me respite till the Day they are raised up (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 14 He said: Lo! thou art of those reprieved. 15 Then Satan said, "Because You have put me in the wrong, I will lie in ambush for them on Your straight path: 16 And I shall come upon them from the front and behind, right and left; and You will not find among them many who would give thanks." 17 The Lord told Satan, "Get out of this garden, for you are banished and despised. Hell will be filled with all of those who follow you." 18 And (unto man): O Adam! Dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden and eat from whence ye will, but come not nigh this tree lest ye become wrong-doers. 19 But Satan suggested (evil) to them, in order to reveal their hidden parts of which they were not aware (till then), and said: "Your Lord has forbidden you (to go near) this tree that you may not become angels or immortal." 20 And he swore [by Allah] to them, "Indeed, I am to you from among the sincere advisors." 21 So he brought them down with deception; and when they tasted from that tree, their shame became manifest to them and they began attaching the leaves of Paradise on themselves; and their Lord said to them, “Did I not forbid you from that tree, and tell you that Satan is an open enemy to you?” 22 They said: "O our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we shall certainly be lost." 23 He said: Get forth, some of you, the enemies of others, and there is for you in the earth an abode and a provision for a time. 24 Allah said: therein ye shall live and therein ye shall die, and therefrom ye shall be brought forth. 25
