Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
