The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 And when the stars shall dart down, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 The ten-month pregnant female camels are abandoned, 4 when the savage beasts are gathered 5 And when the seas are set afire. 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 For what sin she was slain, 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 The curtain drawn back from the skies, 11 And when Hell-fire shall be kindled to fierce ablaze. 12 And when Paradise shall be brought near, 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 Verily, this is the Word (this Quran brought by) a most honourable messenger [Jibrael (Gabriel), from Allah to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)]. 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens). 21 And your companion is not insane. 22 he indeed saw the message-bearer on the clear horizon; 23 he is not grudging of the Unseen. 24 This is not the utterance of an accursed devil. 25 where then are you going? 26 It is nothing but Good Counsel for everyone in the world, 27 For the one among you who wishes to become upright. 28 However, you will not be able to choose anything unless God, Lord of the Universe wills it to be so. 29
