And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
