A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
