The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
