The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
