He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him you attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he feareth 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
