The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 thinking he would never revert (to Us). 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 I swear by the twilight; 16 And by the night and that which it driveth together, 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 you shall proceed onwards from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 And Allah knows best what they hide, 23 (Muhammad), tell them that they will all suffer a painful torment 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
