Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 labouring, weary, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 cushions ranged, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
