The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On lined couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and continuous shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
