The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
