The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
