And to Thamood their brother Salih; he said, 'O my people, serve God! You have no god other than He; there has now come to you a clear sign from your Lord -- this is the She-camel of God, to be a sign for you. Leave her that she may eat in God's earth, and do not touch her with evil, lest you be seized by a painful chastisement. 73 Remember, that He has made you the successor of 'Aad, and lodged you in the land. You have built palaces on its plains and hewed out houses in the mountains. Remember the favor of Allah and do not act mischievously in the earth, corrupting' 74 The chiefs of those who were stiff-necked amongst His people said unto those who were counted weak - unto such of them as believed: know ye that Salih is a sent one of his Lord? They said: verily we are believers in that wherewith he hath been sent. 75 The proud oppressors said, "We reject that which you believe in". 76 (Then) they hamstrung the shecamel and defied the order of their Lord, saying to Salih: 'Bring down that which you have promised us if you truly are one of the Messengers' 77 So the earthquake overwhelmed them, and morning found them prostrate in their dwelling places. 78 Saleh therefore turned away from them and said, “O my people! Indeed I did deliver my Lord’s message to you and wished you good, but you do not want well-wishers.” (The people in the graves can hear the speech of those who are on earth.) 79 And We sent Lot, who said to his people: "Why do you commit this lecherous act which none in the world has committed before? 80 In preference to women you satisfy your lust with men. Indeed you are a people who are guilty of excess." 81 And naught was the answer of his people save that they said: drive them forth from your city, verily they are a people who would be pure! 82 Then We saved him and his family, except his wife; she was of those who remained behind (in the torment). 83 And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals. 84
