The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 "His plan is to get you out of your land: then what is it ye counsel?" 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 They replied: 'We shall surely turn to our Lord. 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
