We have not created the heavens and earth, and what between them is, for vanity; such is the thought of the unbelievers, wherefore woe unto the unbelievers because of the Fire! 27 Or should we treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like corrupters in the land? Or should We treat those who fear Allah like the wicked? 28 We have sent down a Book to you which is blessed, so that people may apply their minds to its revelations, and the men of wisdom may reflect. 29 And We vouchsafed unto Da'ud Sulaiman. How excellent a bondman! verily he was oft-returning. 30 [Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses. 31 And he said: Lo! I have preferred the good things (of the world) to the remembrance of my Lord; till they were taken out of sight behind the curtain. 32 "Bring them back unto me!" - and would [lovingly] stroke their legs and their necks. 33 But [ere this,] indeed, We had tried Solomon by placing upon his throne a [lifeless] body; and thereupon he turned [towards Us; and] 34 He said: My Lord! do Thou forgive me and grant me a kingdom which is not fit for (being inherited by) anyone after me; 35 Then We subjected the wind to his power, to flow gently to his order, Whithersoever he willed,- 36 And [also] the devils [of jinn] - every builder and diver 37 And others bound together in shackles. 38 "This is Our gift," (We said to him), "so bestow freely or withhold without reckoning." 39 And he has a place near to Us, and a fine return. 40
