Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 This is the remembrance of the mercy of your Lord upon His bondman Zakaria. 2 When he cried unto his Lord a cry in secret, 3 he prayed: "O my Sustainer! Feeble have become my bones, and my head glistens with grey hair. But never yet, O my Lord, has my prayer unto Thee remained unanswered. 4 And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." 7 He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" 8 He said: "So (it will be) thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: I did indeed create thee before, when thou hadst been nothing!'" 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 kind to his parents, not arrogant or a rebellious person. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
