The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
