The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it setteth, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 then came down close 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
